This is a skin treatment that uses both bi-polar radiofrequency (RF) and a diode laser in a proprietary combination.

Collagen
Our skin is supported and replenished by a connective tissue called collagen. In the body, collagen makes up about a quarter of the entire protein content. As we age, the body slows down its production of collagen, which contributes to the skin becoming thinner and wrinkled.

One way to put more collagen into the skin is to inject it, and many cosmetic surgeons offer this procedure. Another way is to stimulate the skin to produce more of it. The Matrix IR system does this.

How the Matrix IR works
The manufacturer, Syneron Medical Ltd., has devised a proprietary combination of laser light and RF to heat the skin's dermis. That's the layer beneath the surface, the epidermis. In the dermis we have many structures, such as hair follicles, blood vessels, nerves, and collagen. Collagen is made in this dermal layer.

When the dermis is heated by this RF and diode laser, it is stimulated to produce more collagen. This treatment does not burn the skin, because the Matrix IR has a cooling element that prevents the skin surface from becoming hot. By not burning the skin, Matrix IR gives you a short recovery time.

When the skin responds by producing more collagen, this smoothes out wrinkles and gives you a younger, fresher appearance.

Am I a candidate for Matrix IR?
Yes, probably, because this treatment is effective for all skin types. If your health overall is good, and if you understand what to expect from Matrix IR, you would likely be a good candidate. However, a qualified cosmetic surgeon must make the final decision.
