The Answer to the Battle of the Bulge

If multiple trips to the gym and countless sit ups and leg lifts haven’t helped get rid of the excess tissue which may have resulted from pregnancy or weight loss, you might consider a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty). The “apron” or “pouch” (overhanging skin) on your abdomen (tummy) can be removed by removing the loose skin and tightening up the waistline. If you are considering a Tummy Tuck, you should be aware that a number of choices exist:

• Liposuction alone
• Mini Tummy Tuck
• Modified Tummy Tuck
• Full Tummy Tuck
• Extended Tummy Tuck

In some cases, liposuction alone can improve abdominal appearance without a tummy tuck. If you have a layer of fatty tissue outside the abdominal wall, very little looseness of the wall (very little pooching of the abdomen) and minimal skin looseness or overhanging skin, then you may require liposuction alone. However, remember that because liposuction will only reduce excess fat, will not improve a lax inner girdle or significantly tighten loose skin. So, if you have excess fat, tight skin, and tight abdominal fascia, you may only need abdominal liposuction. So, if you have excess skin, poor skin tone, or lax fascia, then you will be disappointed with the results of liposuction and will require a tummy tuck. Remember that stretch marks are an indication of poor skin tone!
